Susan Balee

Susan Balée has been a regular contributor to The Hudson Review for over twenty-five years. She has published hundreds of reviews and numerous op-eds and personal essays for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, as well as occasional essays in venues including the Michigan Quarterly Review, the TLS, and theWomen’s Review of Books. Her fiction has appeared in Silent Voices, The Bucks County Review, and The Wild River Review, and been performed in Philadelphia’s “Writing Aloud” series. She appears on the NEA/NPR’s “Big Read” audio programs discussing novels by Jack London, Marilynne Robinson, and Leo Tolstoy. She’s written introductions for editions of Mary Elizabeth Braddon’s Lady Audley’s Secret and Gaston Leroux’s The Phantom of the Opera and published the first biography (for young adults!) of Flannery O’Connor, with an introduction by Jerry Lewis.
